A Better Home

I know I just settled on a docker/wordpress configuration, but I re-did everything again!

Wordpress is no more - too much to keep that all running. Continuing my voyage into deploying things as code, I am now running with Hugo on Cloudflare Pages.

There is no server to manage.

Looking deeper into the home lab and things are becoming simpler there as well.

Cloudflare’s Zero Trust platform has allowed me to create a simple VPN fabric to connect into cloud providers. So there is no longer a on-premises AD-DC. Just a simple VM in Azure running the bare minimum configuration to provide that functionality. Things will eventually just be migrated into Entra ID.

Physically, the infrastructure is scaled down. VMWare is gone and replaced with Proxmox on a single Lenovo M720q. The VM-Series firewall has also been replaced with a physical PA-450. I was concerned about the 1600Mb/s limit on my ISP connection. However, using the mGig SFP+ on the switch lets me link to the cable modem at the higher data rate. Using an aggregate on the PAN gives me 2x1Gb/s, so I can’t get a full 1600Mb/s from a single connection, but across several, I can make use of all of my bandwidth.

The reduced power draw and license requirement should be easier to maintain moving forward.
